“Being Disciples: Essentials of the Christian Life”
Lenten Study Group (Zoom) – 6 sessions
Tuesday evenings 7:00 – 8:30pm beginning March 7, 2023

We continually hear in Sunday sermons and Christian literature that we are to be working at maturing in the Christian faith and life. Our usual experience of church consists of worship, post-service coffee-hour, and outreach projects in which to become involved. Where can we conscientiously focus on ourselves as maturing disciples?

Retired Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, has produced an excellent resource to help us do that.  Being Disciples explores the essentials of the Christian life, and it does so using vocabulary rooted in the daily lives of ordinary people.  In the Introduction, Williams writes, “We discover what’s involved in our Christian commitment not … by reading books about it but by the daily effort to live in a way that allows Jesus Christ to come through in our lives … And it is also about how we as a Church go on being a learning community, how we grow in depth of relation with each other and God.”

At the invitation of Bishop Geoff, Bishop Don Phillips is offering this course to congregations in the Kildonan Deanery. (He offered it to All Saints, Winnipeg during Lent of 2021.) It is hoped that several people from several parishes will participate and support each other’s learning.
