Lent is typically a time of prayer, fasting and reflection as we prepare for Holy Week. Many people give things up or take things on to help mark the time as different from Ordinary Time. Here are some resources to consider as we enter into Lent:
To use with Kids: This link will take you to a post about Lent and a link to a podcast where Eileen Campbell-Reed and Traci Smith discuss ideas for including kids in Lent. Traci's book "Faithful Families: For Lent, Easter, and Resurrection" is also a good resource.
Kate Bowler's Good Enough Lent: Kate has created a free reflection guide to lead people through Lent that she says is designed to let you take yourself "off the hook for perfection. Perfect lives. Perfect bodies. Perfect relationships. And realize that this is the beautiful work of being human... again today. Thank God we get to do it together."
Lent Madness: Maybe this is the year to engage playfully in Lent. Lent Madness is a round robin tournament that invites you to learn about, and then vote for your favourite saints. It's fun and you'll learn a lot too. Sign up and you'll receive a daily email with the stories of two saints. Read the stories and vote for your favourite. At Easter, one saint will be crowned the winner and receive the golden halo.
Letting Go with all Your Heart, Soul, Strength and Mind: Sign up and Living Compass will send you daily devotional emails and the link to a private Facebook group where you can share and discuss with others. Living Compass is an organization that helps parishes and people to grow in wellness spiritually, emotionally, relationally, and organizationally so that they can grow in love and service to their neighbour.
Lenten Micropractices Calendar: A downloadable booklet that provides 40 days of spiritual practices to help you renew your passion for prayer, fasting, and loving others through small, simple daily practices and prompts. (Or just to explore these ideas for the first time.)
