Our church ladies are starting outreach work on a new project.
Wechetowin is a Cree word for “People Helping People” a grassroots organization, formed in 2006 by
the Rupert’s Land Aboriginal Circle of Elders. Moving forward into 2024, we will continue the work
envisioned by our Indigenous Elders as we work together, Indigenous and non-Indigenous people
supporting each other.
All of Rupert’s Land Wechetowin efforts are intended to address Healing, Wellness and Reconciliation.
This is done holistically by ‘people helping people’, connecting in a variety of ways, giving people hope
in times of transition. God our Creator never leaves our side.
We, the people of Rupert's Land, gather supplies, fill the homemade bags, smudge and bless those
bags and then distribute them to children who are going through a new transition, as well as women
who use the shelter programs in our community.
We will be creating Blessing Bags and filling them with supplies and then delivering to the Wechetowin ministry from Epiphany Anglican Church. These bags include gifts for children and youth who find themselves in the midst of transitions: Fun items to keep busy and the opportunity to connect.
We will be collecting:
Women’s Blessing Bags:
Gloves / Scarf, Multi-purpose wipes, Chapstick, Facial wipes, Moisturizer, Comb, Toothbrush + Tooth Paste,
Grooming Kit, Women items for self-care, First Aid Kit (Band-aids etc)
Children’s Items for Blessing Bags:
Colouring Books, Crayons, Fun activity packs,, Small toys,, Stuffies,, Books, Pencils
Mittens/Scarves, Comfort Snuggle blankets, Chewing Gum, Mints
Pre-paid Phone card, Stamps, Stationary, Journal + Pen
Water Bottle
We will also accept monetary donations. Those interested in sewing the bags can contact Rev Deacon Beverley for more information. Posters and collection boxes will be located at the church. A coffee date will be planned for assembling the bags.
