Hello St George’s,
This coming Sunday, January 30th, we will be observing the Feast of the Presentation. This is a service where we reflect on the story where Jesus is presented at the Temple causing Simeon to break into a song and refer to Jesus as light for the world (Luke 2:22-40). As the church developed, this feast, also known as Candlemas, became a time to celebrate light and to bless all the candles that would be used in the church throughout the coming year. Over the week I encourage you to spend some time thinking about light - what are the things and who are the people that are light to you? What gives you hope when things feel dark? If you can, have something that represents light to you when you participate in Sunday’s service – a candle, flashlight, photo of a dear friend - to help you deepen your participation in this service that reminds of that Jesus is the light of the world. I know that some people also find it helpful to read rather than listen to a sermon, you can read my sermon by clicking here.
Peace to you today and everyday, Rachel
